Jesus Predicts His Death!

Jesus Teaching Disciples Pictures, Images and Photos

John 12:34-36 (New Living Translation)

34. The crowd responded, “We understood from Scripture that the Messiah would live forever. How can you say the Son of Man will die? Just who is this Son of Man, anyway?”

35. Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. 36. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.”

After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them.

These final instructions from Jesus was supposed to diminish their fears, but they simply did not understand. How could this Jesus they know be the Son of Man and would He literally die? It was just more than they could comprehend. It does boggle the mind doesn't it, it even boggles mine. Have you ever imagined what it would have been like to be alive in that time and experience this scenario? I have and I think about now when false prophets come forward with anything and everything to deceive people and how there will always be some folks that will follow them. Doesn't it make you wonder if they could be real? Why is that and how can they just believe these lies? Many of these people knew Jesus as He was growing up, they knew His parents and his brothers. They had witnessed miracles, just a few days before Lazarus had died and Jesus called him out of that tomb. Yet in their hearts, they just still had some doubts. It is still the same today, we have people that don't believe Jesus died and was raised from the dead on the third day. I certainly don't have answers for everything, but I do know by faith, we step out one foot at a time and we begin a walk that strengthens and assures us of this truth. We know our hearts change when we are saved, and that what we read in the Bible is really the Word of God. We are then steadfast in our faith and we believe. Nothing will shake us and draw us away if we know this truth. As we are remembering this Holy Week in the events that take place, remember we can have certainty in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God and everything in Gods Word is true. You really can stake your (eternal) life on it.
