Fasting and Weight Lost!

Acts 13:2,3 (The Message)

One day as they were worshiping God—they were also fasting as they waited for guidance—the Holy Spirit spoke: "Take Barnabas and Saul and commission them for the work I have called them to do."

3.So they commissioned them. In that circle of intensity and obedience, of fasting and praying, they laid hands on their heads and sent them off.

Various methods of fasting:

1.Total fasting; no food or liquid, Jesus miraculously did this for 40 days by the Spirit.

2.Juice fasting; a liquid diet of fruit, vegetable, and other healthful juices is sustainable.

3.Daniel fasting; only fruits and vegetables, no meat or delicacies.

4.Reduced number of daily meals; as the early Church broke their fast in the afternoon.

Are you amazed sometimes how God directs our paths? I want to share with you just such an experience. I needed to lose some weight and I did not want to do the measuring and counting calories. And to tell you the truth, I was somewhat disheartened. I had been praying so when I came to one of my blogger sisters and began to read about her success, I knew in my heart this was for me. I was so excited and started that very day! (there are 3 links on the sidebar) I knew that fasting without praying is simply starvation, but this was different. Fasting 2 meals (of course with prayer and reading the Word) and then having a window of time from 5 pm to 10 pm, I could eat with my husband and enjoy my dinner without all the guilt. (On the sidebar is a link that will take you to the website that explains the concept) This is not harmful to your metabolism or to your body, it gives your body time to use the stored fat, (all the facts are listed) The science is behind it, so I was ready. I can truthfully tell you that I have not been weak, or head achy or even hungry. What is even more of a blessing is that hubby is also on board, and it is working for him. (he is a preacher so he already had the spiritual part going for him) Food can become way to important, and this is just another part of our flesh that has to be brought in subjection. If you get a chance and you feel the Lord leading you this way, please do some research and make up your own mind about it. On my other blog "My Weight Lost Journey" I will keep you updated. (The link is also on the sidebar). Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we need to practice a healthy lifestyle.( As most of you know I had polio as a child, excess weight is horrible for me). In closing notice what #4 states above, "The early church broke their fast in the afternoon." Be blessed and walk in His ways!

Yay! I am SO GLAD it is working for you too. To God be the glory!

It has definitely shown me areas where I have run to food in the past.

God bless you and your husband on this journey. I pray 2010 will be a wonderful year for you both.

Love,
Beth

I love the closing party,,'The early church broke their fast in the afternoon'.

I feel the Lord calling me to go through all my Bibles (yes, I have quite a few) and start writing out all the scriptures that I have underlined, and anything that I have written beside those scriptures that pertain to fasting and also gluttony. As I do this, I will be writing some devotionals on what I have found...

What an interesting idea. I'll have to give it more consideration. I've been "cutting down" but losing weight is sure hard. This sounds like a good solution. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I notice the name Methvin on your sidebar. We knew a preacher in California named Paul Methvin. I'd never heard that name before or since until now.
Blessings to you in the new year.

I am so thankful that God led me to this way of eating. Praise the Lord. More of Him and less of me. I honestly believe God used the fast to break my binging habits, basically eating off and on all day. I now believe fasting from "whites" is going to help me reach my goal. Once I get to goal (130 lbs) then I will continue i-fasting but adding more whole grain breads and pastas/rice to my diet. (((hugs))) I am following you now and will follow your weight loss blog. What a blessing that your Husband is on board. Yay!
