The Table!

Matthew 26:20 (New Living Translation)

20. When it was evening, Jesus sat down at the table with the twelve disciples.

What is it about sitting down at a table surrounded by family and friends? I remember when I was a little girl, seems like we always had company for supper (in the south, it is supper), long after the meal was over with, folks were still seated around the table. It was a place for catching up on a lot of tall tales, (some of them might have even been true!) My parents were respected and well liked in our community and hospitality was their speciality. One could hardly get through the door until you were asked if you was hungry or needed a cup of coffee. As I was reading this scripture I got to thinking about all the emphasis that was put on what happened around the tables from the old testament to the New. I believe something special happens when people are sharing food and fellowship. It is important for us to share our home with friends and family, a place when they come they are made to feel welcome and very special. It isn't entertaining, but the gift of hospitality. I love sharing our home that God has given to us. The next time you have company, remember all the fellowship and blessings that happened around the table.
Have a blessed week around your "table".
