Times are Changing!

I wonder how many folks received something electronic for Christmas? I am happy to report I am the proud owner of a Nook e-reader from Barnes and Noble! I have to say! I just love it and the convenience of everything attached to it. The first book I put on it was of course, the Bible. Then I put a daily devotional, then Francine Rivers new book, and I was on my way. There are many books that are free and reduced price that I feel like it will be worth it to have. But, there is something about holding a book, having a library and even the smell of books that tugs my heart. Will we ever get to the point when a "real" book will be hard to find? Maybe for some folks this will be true. Things are certainly changing aren't they? I supposed they call it progress and it has to be that way or we get stuck. I am not altogether sure it is not ok to be "stuck". So change is good and then some things should never change. Like our conviction that we follow Christ, that we have a made up mind we will not turn back. As this New Year gets under way, I am thinking about all the changes that will be made, some of our doing, some of others, but nevertheless there will be change. Am I rooted and grounded enough that I will stand firm, that no matter what happens I will not lose my trust in God? I believe it is a good thing to check ourselves every once in awhile. What is my motive for the things I do? Is this pleasing to God? Do I have unforgiveness in my heart? Am I bitter or deeply hurt over the things in my past. The list could go on forever, but my point here is no matter what, changes are all around us. There will be good ones and there will be those that are of great loss to us. I certainly don't like new years resolutions, but I do like commitments and with God's help I truly want to be more committed to living in His will for my life. My desire for my family and friends is to know Jesus and grow in the knowledge of His Word, just like the scriptures tell us. We can make this world a better place for others if we try. Just think of all the people you come in contact with and how much we can pray for them and show them the Love of Christ. Let's strive to be more like Him, so others can have hope. It is a terrible thing to not have hope.
Blessings to you this week, thank you for stopping by!

So true, Shirley, there are so many changes in our world it is hard to keep up with them. No, it is impossible to keep up with them. I would like to have an elecronic book thingy, but for now I'll keep reading the printed ones. We have soooo many of them at our house. You're right. We need to stand firm in our trust in God and Christ. Thank you for sharing these thoughts.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Lovely post Shirley. So very true that things seem to change every single day...but some things never change...like God's love for us!
I struggle with the electronic reader vs holding a real book in my hands too..so far real books are winning out :) but in the future.... Enjoy your elec. reader! I hear they are wonderful!

I can't imagine what they will come up with in the next 10 years or even 5. Change is hard for me but I do need to keep with the changes.

Ginger

You are so right. Technology is changing everyday. Never before has information been so readily available and yet He will always be the same. It is comforting to know this as I sometimes feel intimidated by some of the changes.
Enjoy your reader. I think it would be great traveling.

we don't have an e-book reader yet but are wondering if we should get one when the kids want an ipad and there's an e reader on it. Decisions...not my best thing to do. But I agree with what you said about hope....it's a terrible thing not to have...

I too, am enjoying my Nook Ereader. There is still a lot to learn about it to be really comfortable but there is still a lot to learn about in our relationship with Christ. The changes Christ makes in us is wonderful and the changes we make in our life can be blessed if it is by God's helping hand. This was a good post Shirley. Thank you.

Hi Shirley,

Several years ago, I bought my wife a reader. At first she was reluctant to use it, but now it has become a valued instrument. I prefer softcopy reading probably because I have worked in IT my entire professional career. Many publishing companies now cite the cost of publication as the reason for the growth in digital publication.

The new year will no doubt bring some changes for each of us, but we have the Lord who gives us His unmeasured grace to sustain us.

Thank you for sharing this post on Changing Times.

Blessings and peace.

WONDERFUL post Sweetie.. I often ask myself these things, such as, am I seeking Him in every decision during my days?..Is what I'm doing pleasing to Him? It has helped me through His Spirit to get even closer to Our LORD and Savior.. I praise Him for that continually...Thanks for this share...May Christ's blessings be on you and yours as you follow His path in the new week ahead~~~LotsOfLoveandHugs Dena

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your NOOK. I have a KINDLE. Gift was given for Christmas from my son. I hope our memory of books will never go away. I love the library. I love to turn a page of a book. Love to browse an old independent bookstore. I hope it never becomes a page in history, only a memory, a forgotten past. I'm going to ask God to keep our books always with us and for the next generation too. Love your blog. Thanks for being here.

I enjoyed your post. I like most new gadgets. They intrigue me.However, I don't think I will ever give up my books. I write and mark in them. Especially my Bible.I think a kindle would be good for fiction type books. Doylene

Hi there. I agree with so many of the comments here. It is amazing how fast technology is changing.
I think about the seniors I work with... some are 100+ years old.
Look at all the changes that have occured in their lifetime!?! Unreal. But the one thing that never changes is Jesus Christ. Amen!

Shirley~things are changing rapidly. Some are quite a blessing and fun like your e-reader. I'm glad that we know the one thing that will never change is Jesus Christ. And that gives us the hope we need to face tomorrow's unexpected changes.

Blessings,
