All Things Really Do Work Together!

Romans 8:28 (The Living Translation)
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I just have the funniest story to share with you this morning so let me set the stage. My grandson married this wonderful young woman Sarah last year, when the ceremony was over, my daughter introduced her new daughter in law to her new father in law. Well, that doesn't sound to bad, right? Except when she did, she called her by an old girlfriends name of her son! Oh, my goodness! After a tense moment and a look of panic on grandsons face (my other daughter just at this moment takes a picture), she rushes outside and begins to bawl like a baby! Now, I have to admit it was intense! But every time she told anyone what she did, all people did was laugh. Even the new bride didn't get rattled. (I expect she will be  apologizing to for many years to come. Lol.)  Now here comes the exciting part, we have a Christian Radio station in our area that had a contest about the worst or most memorable event that took place at a wedding. The prize would be a seminar on marriage with Gary Smalley and events through out the day on February 14th, Valentines day. By this time, I am sure you realize she won! When they called her and ask her to share what happened, even they were laughing. Many of the comments posted on facebook showed everyone just thought it was funny but also having an "oh no" monent! Well, it definitely would have been interesting if the new bride had reacted any different. Thank goodness, she had a sense of humor to! As I was listening to all this transpiring, I immediately thought of the scripture that "all things work together to the good to those that are called according to His purpose" and wondered if at the time it happened, God is saying to Himself, "how in the world will I use this". I don't mean any disrespect, but if you really believe this particular scripture, then you will have to believe He really means it! And He will use "everything" as a lesson for us to learn and grow in the ways of His Son. I hope you enjoy my funny story, but please remember the reason for this post! Our past failures, future failures, mistakes, sins whatever you want to call them,  He really does work out these things for our good! Even the things which just embarrass us to death, can still have a good ending. Thank you for stopping by, I pray you will be a blessing to everyone you come in contact with this week.

It's amazing how God can change even our most embarrasing moments into something good. Even years later. Excellent post Shirley

Yes, I believe that scripture (and all scripture), too. Thank you for sharing that story and your thoughts. Nine years ago, for my parents' 40th anniversary, they, my 2 brothers and their wives, and my husband and me all attended a Gary Smalley Marriage Retreat together. We bought the book Love and Food, and it changed my (now) 17 year old son's life, when he read it over a year ago.

A picture is worth a thousand words and I love the look on your grandson's face. Thank goodness the bride does have a sense of humor!

I once worked in a bank and called a customer by her husband's ex wife's name. Boy was I embarresed, but she didn't react in a bad way.

Love the passage in Romans.

Oh! I have definetly learned this to be true! God always brings something good from all situations! Isn't it awesome the way He can do that? Thanks for sharing the funny story. I pray that your daughter has a blessed time at the conference!

I firmly believe the Lord has a sense of humor too and you're right He uses everything to our good.

What a story! It will be told in the family forever.

I do like the reminder that it brings--that all things work together for good. Every time I'm plagued by my past failures, I need to remember this Scripture and trust the Lord.

Blessings,
Janis

Thank you for sharing a moment that could have been a disaster. We are human and God knows we mean well but sometimes things just happen. This was a great story and I love the bride for reacting in such a way that bad feelings did not happen. Blessings come in many ways and this was a blessing. It also made me laugh when her DIL won the contest at the radio station. Love this.
Blessings, Jeanne
